The Ministry of Religious Affairs has launched the second phase of Haj 2026 registrations, accepting applications from August 11 to August 16. The process is open to anyone who missed the initial round and will be available both through the ministry’s online portal and at designated banks.
The announcement comes after the ministry wrapped up its first application phase on Saturday, collecting over 71,000 submissions from aspiring pilgrims nationwide. According to ministry spokesperson Muhammad Umar Butt, the smooth completion of this stage set the groundwork for the next, which now includes first-time registrants.
Process for Overseas Pakistanis
Pakistanis living abroad can also apply via a close relative in Pakistan, provided the application is submitted through an authorised bank. However, those applying from overseas must present a medical fitness certificate when they arrive in Pakistan ahead of the pilgrimage.
Haj Quota and Policy Highlights
Under the Haj Policy 2026, approved by the federal cabinet last month, Pakistan’s quota from Saudi Arabia is expected to be 179,210 pilgrims — with 119,210 slots for the government’s official scheme and 60,000 for private operators. The final numbers will be confirmed by Saudi authorities.
Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Muhammad Yousaf said the government scheme will offer two options:
- Standard package: 38–42 days in Saudi Arabia
- Short package: 20–25 days
The estimated cost will range between Rs1.15 million and Rs1.25 million, subject to agreements with accommodation and transport providers in Saudi Arabia.
Context
Haj, the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah, is one of the five pillars of Islam and draws millions of Muslims from across the world each year. Pakistan consistently receives one of the largest national quotas, making early registration and clear policy communication essential for the smooth organisation of the pilgrimage.
