Pakistan’s Tarbela Dam, the country’s largest water reservoir, has reached its maximum storage level following days of heavy rainfall in the upper Haripur region. Officials confirmed that spillways were opened at 6 p.m. on Monday to manage the surge, with outflows now at 250,000 cusecs.
Flood Risk Prompts Safety Warnings
With water levels at their peak, Haripur’s district administration has urged residents to stay away from rivers, canals, and bridges. Deputy Commissioner Haripur stressed that the situation remains “highly sensitive,” and rescue teams are on standby to respond quickly if flooding worsens.
Precautionary Measures in Place
The dam authority has appealed to locals to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary movement near water channels, and follow safety instructions closely. Officials say the proactive release of water is part of an effort to reduce downstream flood risks, which often escalate during late monsoon surges.
