OpenAI has just pulled the curtain back on ChatGPT-5, describing it as their most capable AI model to date. Apple isn’t wasting any time—its in-device AI suite, Apple Intelligence, will soon make the leap from GPT-4o to GPT-5.
According to sources, the upgrade will arrive with the official releases of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, all expected to land next month alongside the iPhone 17 lineup.
Siri, Writing Tools, and Camera Control to See Immediate Gains
Apple Intelligence currently taps ChatGPT for on-demand tasks—Siri can fetch detailed answers, Writing Tools can refine and rewrite text, and Camera Control can identify objects or scenes through Visual Intelligence. At present, all of this runs on GPT-4o.
Once the new OS versions roll out, every ChatGPT-powered feature will switch over to GPT-5. Users can expect sharper accuracy, faster replies, and responses that better adapt to context—something GPT-5 has been designed to excel at.
