Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari reiterated his demand for the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to announce an election date during an event hosted by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA). Bilawal stressed that any delay in the election would infringe on the people’s right to vote, saying, “I urge the ECP to immediately declare the election date.”
At the ceremony, Bilawal expressed his gratitude for being invited to the golden jubilee celebrations of the 1973 Constitution and acknowledged the Supreme Court’s unwavering commitment to upholding the constitution’s supremacy, as well as its vital role in opposing dictatorial regimes.
He emphasized the constitution’s significance as the heart and soul of any state, highlighting that democracy serves as a guardian of the constitution, which, in turn, protects human rights. Bilawal also pointed out that every Prime Minister of Pakistan had faced accountability before the Supreme Court.
In reflection, Bilawal recalled the 30-year political struggle of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for the restoration of the constitution and expressed regret that neither Benazir Bhutto nor her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, had received justice.
