Govt Clears Rs3bn Relief Package for Flood-Hit Gilgit-Baltistan

ISLAMABAD – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has signed off on a Rs3 billion relief package for Gilgit-Baltistan, where recent floods have devastated communities and disrupted infrastructure.

The decision came during an ECC meeting chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, which also reviewed energy sector dues and fiscal discipline measures.

The funds, requested by the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, follow Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to the flood-stricken region earlier this month, where he directed immediate federal assistance.

According to a Finance Division statement, the package will cover emergency supplies such as tents, food, and medical aid, while also financing reconstruction and early recovery efforts.

Senior federal ministers, secretaries, and regulatory officials attended the session, underscoring the urgency of addressing both the humanitarian fallout of the floods and broader economic challenges.

The approval signals Islamabad’s intent to expedite aid delivery in a region where harsh terrain and limited infrastructure often slow disaster response efforts.
