Pakistani Forces Down Suspected Indian Surveillance Drone Near Lahore Border

Security personnel in Lahore’s Manawan sector shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle believed to have originated from India, police officials confirmed on Friday. The device was intercepted after crossing into Pakistani territory and has been seized for examination by intelligence teams.

Officials say the drone carried no explosives, suggesting it was used for reconnaissance rather than attack. Its presence has renewed concerns over cross-border incursions, particularly given the fragile truce that has held since May 2025.

The incident comes against the backdrop of a major flare-up earlier this year, when tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi escalated into open military confrontation. That conflict — later dubbed “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos” by Pakistan — saw Pakistani forces claim the downing of six Indian fighter jets, including three Rafales, and the destruction of dozens of drones over an 87-hour exchange.

The short but intense battle ended with a ceasefire on May 10, 2025. The truce was announced by then–US President Donald Trump, who said his mediation had helped broker peace. While India rejected Trump’s account and denied his involvement, Pakistan publicly credited him and even nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.

The latest drone incident will now test that shaky peace. Intelligence officials have yet to determine whether the aircraft was intentionally flown across the border or strayed off course, but sources say its design and flight pattern point to deliberate surveillance activity.
