Punjab Govt Tightens Oversight on Murree Development Projects

Rawalpindi – The Punjab Local Government has announced stricter monitoring of development schemes in Murree, with an emphasis on transparency, deadlines, and construction quality.

Local Government Secretary Mian Shakeel Ahmed made the announcement during his recent visit to the hill station, where he chaired a review meeting and inspected several project sites.

Monitoring from Start to Finish

Under the new approach, every project will be closely tracked from its launch until completion. Contractors will face increased scrutiny to ensure both speed and quality, addressing a long-standing issue of delays and substandard work in public projects across the province.

Key Projects Under Review

The Murree deputy commissioner briefed Secretary Ahmed on a range of ongoing works, including road rehabilitation, sanitation improvements, upgrades to tourist facilities, and enhancements to urban infrastructure. Funding details and expected completion timelines were also shared.

Senior officials from district and tehsil administrations, along with Murree’s municipal leadership, were present at the session.

Site Inspections in Tourist Areas

Following the meeting, Secretary Ahmed toured development sites at Khani Taak and Kashmir Point—popular tourist spots that have seen increased pressure on local infrastructure. He assessed progress firsthand and reiterated the provincial government’s directive that all schemes must be finished on time.

Government’s Commitment to Murree

Acknowledging the efforts of the Murree administration, Ahmed said the government remains committed to ensuring that both residents and tourists benefit from improved facilities. “Delays will not be tolerated,” he added, signaling a tougher line on accountability.
